Spring letter to Candia residents

Dear Residents of Candia,

Springtime already! We want everyone to be safe and enjoy the nice weather.  Just a reminder that as school season wraps up and graduations are happening, we ask that motorists watch for children outdoors playing, and persons riding their bicycles.  NH law states that vehicles traveling 30 miles per hour or under need to give three feet of distance to bicyclist, and one foot thereafter for every ten miles per hour over 30 MPH.  Also, there is the “Move Over” law that requires motorists to give a wide berth when passing an emergency vehicle to include state highway vehicles and tow trucks.  Also, in the warmer weather come concerns about speeding vehicles.  It mostly occurs during the commute times with occasional reports in between those times.  We have a LIDAR unit as well as radar to measure speeds and we can respond to areas to address concerns of speeding vehicles.

I wanted to let you about the numerous reports to the Candia Police Department of fraudulent Internal Revenue Service calls to residents.   These scammers are looking for quick money.  Never talk to or call back these scammers.  Please don’t provide any information to them.    If there is any doubt or question please feel free to gives us a call 483-2318.  The IRS scams can be reported to the Treasury Inspector general for Tax Administration, www.TIGTA.GOV or Phishing@irs.gov (for e-mail scams).  You may also report it to the IRS by calling 1-800-366-4484.

We’ve also had a package theft from a resident’s front porch.  If you are expecting items to be shipped to your home, and you may not be around for the delivery, you can call the delivery company and asked them to require a signature ensuring that someone will be around.  You can also have the company hold the packages at their nearest delivery facility or have them delivered to a neighbor.

As always, please don’t hesitate to call us if you see any suspicious activity, vehicles/persons or have any questions regarding any of the above information.

Thank you,

Candia Police Department
