Henry W. Moore School named 2025 New Hampshire K-8 School of Excellence

The New Hampshire Excellence in Education Awards (EDies) Committee proudly announces that Henry W. Moore School in Candia has been named the 2025 New Hampshire K-8 School of Excellence. This prestigious honor recognizes the Moore School’s exceptional commitment to academic excellence, personalized learning, reflective practice, and a strong, inclusive school community.

Following a rigorous and comprehensive statewide evaluation process, the Moore School stood out among highly qualified candidates for its student-centered learning environment, strong collaboration among staff, and the deep connections it fosters with families and the broader community.

“At a time when the importance of strong, connected school communities has never been clearer, the Moore School shines as a model of excellence,” said Collette Flanders, Co-Chair of the EDies Committee. “Moore stands out as a beacon of collaboration, care, and commitment in the Candia community.”

Serving approximately 280 students from kindergarten through eighth grade, the Moore School emphasizes small class sizes—averaging just 14 students—and dynamic, responsive instruction. Daily small group lessons in reading and math are paired with flexible, inquiry-based activities that engage students and foster critical thinking.

“This recognition means the world to us,” shared Becky Wing, Principal. “It’s a celebration of the passion and perseverance our school community brings every single day. We’re proud of what we’ve accomplished—and even more excited for what’s ahead. We look forward to building on this momentum and continuing to grow together."

Instructional practices are grounded in strong content knowledge and a belief that all students can succeed. Teachers meet regularly in professional learning communities, analyzing formative data, setting student goals, and personalizing instruction to ensure growth for every learner. Moore’s Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) in academics and behavior exemplify best practices in meeting diverse student needs.

“They excel in collaboration and planning, working as a team to provide all students with high-quality core instruction, ” said Stephanie Parzick, EDies Board Member.

Beyond academics, Moore School is deeply embedded in the Candia community. Popcorn Tuesdays, Agriculture Day, PTO movie nights, and community service projects like Earth Day Cleanup connect students, families, and local organizations in shared learning and celebration. The school’s partnerships with groups such as the Candia Fire Department, Garden Club, and Candia Women’s Club enrich the educational experience through authentic, real-world connections.

"We enjoy coming to work here daily," shared longtime teacher Juliette Tourville, who has been at the Moore School since 2000. "We care about each other and develop friendships and relationships beyond the school walls. We are a family."

Students themselves echo that sentiment.
“I don’t think I would change anything. This school is perfect the way it is,” said fifth grader Emilie.
Sixth grader Kris added, “My favorite thing about this school is hands down the people. They help you, keep you safe, and make school fun.”

The school’s vision—“The Moore School is a model school for personalizing learning for every student”—is more than a motto; it drives daily decisions and inspires a culture where student voice, academic growth, and community connection are valued equally. Students are encouraged to lead, start clubs, and propose new initiatives, reflecting the school’s deep trust in its learners and the shared responsibility among all stakeholders.

“The Henry W. Moore School is a shining example of what is possible when a school community commits to knowing each learner, building strong partnerships, and leading with purpose,” stated an EDies representative.

The Henry W. Moore School will be formally recognized as the 2025 K-8 School of Excellence at the New Hampshire  Excellence in Education Awards Celebration on June 7, 2025, at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Manchester.
